Managing Devices for a Distributed India Workforce

From the first laptop to a growing device fleet, workplace technology should be managed as a lifecycle - not a series of individual purchases.

Executive perspective

Technology readiness is part of workforce readiness. The right device, delivered configured and supported, helps an employee contribute immediately and gives the business better asset control.

Think in lifecycle, not transactions

A device programme begins with role requirements and continues through configuration, delivery, support, upgrade and recovery. When these stages are planned together, IT becomes easier to scale and employees receive a more consistent experience.

Standardise by roleDefine practical device bundles for engineering, design, sales, operations and leadership roles.
Choose the right commercial modelUse purchase, rental or leasing according to cash flow, flexibility and refresh-cycle requirements.
Keep visibilityTrack every asset, its user, location, condition and lifecycle status from delivery to recovery.

A five-part device strategy

1. Procurement model

Evaluate whether the business benefits from owning devices or from the flexibility of rental and leasing. For growing teams, an adaptable model can reduce the need to commit capital to every device upfront.

2. Pre-deployment preparation

Configure the operating system, approved applications, security settings and accessories before delivery. The employee should receive a ready-to-work setup, not an unfinished box.

3. Nationwide logistics

Plan delivery by employee location, document handover and retain accurate assignment records. Distributed teams need a process that works outside a single office.

4. Support and replacement

Provide an obvious route for troubleshooting and arrange replacement or repair quickly when required. Unplanned downtime is more expensive than a clear support process.

5. Recovery and refresh

At upgrade or exit, recover the device securely, record its condition and determine whether it can be redeployed, repaired or retired.
